Nigerian Actress…Who Is The Best

Are you searching for the best Nigerian actress…? I have had my large share of Nigerian movies.

Seen almost all of the Nigerian actresses, the most beautiful, the toughest, the dearest,

the sweetest, the meanest, and even the most non-pretty ones, yes we have all of them

Here is a comprehensive list of the popular Actresses in Nigeria, the first in the industry and those that actually gave a hand to the making of the Nollywood industry that we know today.

I watched the industry as it scurried away from a gathering of few motivated men (who had hopes and dreams to built another movie industry as well as the fear that it may collapse) to what it is today.

I witnessed the transformation of the Nigerian Movie Industry from infancy to adulthood.

I saw the early days of Nigerian Movies… what it used to be like.

The First Nigerian Actress

Nigerian actress

My earliest impression of a Nigerian actress was that of Nnenna Nwabueze “Merit” in living in Bondage, not much was known of the pretty actress who was called Merit in Nigerian first popular movie. She happened to be one of the matriarchs of a contemporary video culture in Nigeria.

Unfortunately, her pretty figure was never flaunted enough nor did she actually get the award of the “screen goddess” she truly deserved due to marital grip and decisions(as I was told). In the movie – Living in Bondage, she played a descent, supportive house-wife who was unfortunately used for money ritual by her confused husband and the ghost returned to haunt him

Other actresses in the movie – Living in Bondage includes – Obidia (Felicia Mayford), Rita Nzelu, Caro (Ngozi Nwaneto) and Ego (Ngozi Nwosu) who is still as shiny as ever in the movie industry appearing in several Nigerian movies as well as the popular T.v series – House of Commotion.

I almost forgot to mention the pretty lady behind ‘Nneka The Pretty Serpent” she happens to be one of the ladies that defined the concept ‘film’ to the Nigeria community

Nigerian evergreen actresses

Nigerian Actresses

These groups of actresses is those that have been with Nollywood almost from the beginning and have starred in a bunch of movies while they still look fresh and charming.

First on the list is our pretty, Ever fresh actress that stormed the movie industry in the late nineties as a secretary in “True Confession” Who intelligently got herself saved from the grip of a greedy boss who wanted to frame her for theft.

That was the first time I saw Liz Benson in a Nigerian movie, Then every other Movie had Liz Benson as either a mother, a grandmother, schoolgirl or even as a witch and she played them all with wild perfection.

I saw Liz Benson perfectly interpreting different roles in different Nigerian movies, with a countless number of movies to her credit. I think she deserves a first place in the list of Nigerian evergreen actresses, my most favorite of all her movies is “Izaga,” Where she played the role of a witch, alongside Zulu Adigwe, a native doctor, who needed to do everything possible to save the village from her evil grip.

Liz Benson apparently ventured into the movie industry in 1993 with a television soap opera – Fortunes, Then an actual movie in 1994 – Glamour Girl followed by several other movies – True Confessions, Shame, Chain Reaction, Sunset in Africa, Stolen Child, Yesterday, Evil Men 1 and 2, Trial, Pureman, Scores to Settle, Izaga, Burden… Over fifty… according to her.

Second on the list of Nigerian evergreen actresses is our beautiful Genevieve Nnaji, this pretty Nigerian actress walked into the movie industry about ten years ago and have apparently starred in more movies than her equals.

My first glance at her dramatic display was in “Ijele” an epic play also featuring Sam Dede, where she played the role of a peasant little girl who was supposed to be the princess of the rain but was cheated to the throne, frustrated and was almost killed.

But was miraculously restored by the goddess of the rain herself – she won the hearts of Nigerians with that movies.

After Ijele she began featuring in almost every other movie one after the other – Two together, Sharon Stone, Sharon Stone in Abuja, Valentino, Women Affairs, Battleline, Bloodline, Deadly Mistake, Dangerous Sisters, Emergency Weddings, Rip Off, Games Women Play, Private Sin, Prophecy, Power Play 1&2, Rising Sun, Runs, Secret Evil

Stand by Me, The Chosen One, Super Love, Critical Decision, where she starred alongside the Handsome RMD, it was one of my Favorite.

The list of Nigerian evergreen actresses could be endless, Patience Ozokwor, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Ngozi Nwosu, and several others.
